Pakistan's Fakhar Zaman was picked as Dhawan's opening partner after he aggregated 252 runs in four matches at a strike-rate of 113, following scores of 31 against South Africa, 50 against Sri Lanka, 57 against England in the semi-final and 114 against India in the final.

But the two openers became more convincing and in the 20th over, bowled by Jadeja, reached their 50s from consecutive balls - Fakhar second to the milestone from one delivery fewer when he cut his seventh four straight through the hands of Yuvraj at point.

It was then over to Amir, who quickly dispelled the predictions of many that India could pull off a tournament and ground-record run chase - in the process silencing the majority support in a sell-out crowd for this high-profile showdown as their team folded to 158 all out in 30.3 overs.

Despite the heavy loss, Kohli had a smile on his face.

Sarfraz's army defeated Team India in the finals and went on to lift the title for the first time in the history of the tournament.

Earlier, Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss and invited Pakistan to bat.

Jadeja nicked Junaid Khan to slip for 15, Hasan had Ashwin caught by Sarfraz and Hasan forced Bumrah to lob another catch to the wicketkeeper, who pouched it gleefully to complete Pakistan's first Champions Trophy win with 19.3 overs to spare. After the India game, we came back superbly.

"You can always look at things in hindsight, we've always tried to do our best in certain situations, sometimes the opposition does play very well".

Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur too was a happy man. We want to be more consistent as a team.

Giles Clarke, the president of the England and Wales Cricket Board and head of the ICC's Pakistan task force said, in comments reported by the Guardian in March: "The desire is to give the cricket-starved Pakistani supporters the chance to see some of the world's finest players in live action".

"It says a lot about his personality ... but what I do know is that Mohammad Aamer is a big-match player", said Arthur. "We will work really hard to keep this momentum going".

"We've got two years until the 2019 World Cup".

"They made us make those mistakes with the way they were bowling, creating that pressure", he said.
