"I want to retire here", the 35-year-old Peters said, via the Philly Inquirer. "Once I feel like I can't do it no more, I'm just going to do what's best for the team". He had some interesting things to say about the Eagles' Super Bowl aspirations, his contract situation, his relationship with owner Jeffrey Lurie, and more.
"I just told them I didn't understand that", Peters said.
The extension gives Peters $15.5 million in guaranteed money. The Eagles acquired Peters in a trade in 2009, and since then, he has been the anchor for the team at the left tackle position.
The plan is for Peters to play left tackle this season, with Johnson spelling him if necessary. He missed the entire 2012 season after rupturing his right Achilles tendon twice during that offseason.
"Jason is a future Hall of Famer, a great player, and leader", general manager Howie Roseman said.
Quarterback Carson Wentz was sharp throughout most of the practice, but Caleb Sturgis' 49-yard field goal that split the uprights gets the nod here.
"Having Jason out there, we all know what he means to this team", center Jason Kelce said. "Those guys have the potential to be one of the best O-lines in the league and I truly believe that". I know the feeling, back in the day, having those Tra Thomases over there or the Jon Runyans on the right side. "Carson's a guy who can take advantage of those guys being the core of your offensive line".
Last year, the Eagles gave tight end Brent Celek an extension that will keep him in town through 2018. That doesn't appear to be in their thinking for this season, however. We'll take Peters and his 169 games of experience pass-protecting the quarterbacks' blindside to Johnson, who has started just two games at left tackle. After signing Peters to the extension, however, Philadelphia Eagles head coach did not rule out the idea of moving him to another spot on the Eagles' offensive line. He was drafted No. 4 overall in 2013 with the intention of eventually becoming the Eagles' starting left tackle.
"Offensively and defensively and (on) special teams, schematically, we threw a lot of stuff, lot of information at our players", Pederson said.
Notes: Pederson said Wednesday before practice that running back Ryan Mathews has "been excused" from the minicamp.
With training camp slated to get going later this summer, that can now be thrown completely out the window.
Minutes after his team wrapped up minicamp, Nelson Agholor, along with teammates Fletcher Cox and Connor Barwin, were off to a strip club down the street in South Philadelphia where Agholor got in an ugly dust-up with a dancer.
