Chicago police say officers shot and killed a man after he opened fire on their patrol vehicle on the city's South Side.
The victim was shot by someone in a light-colored SUV. He was taken to Stroger Hospital.
Two officers were responding to a call of a person with a gun near the 5800 block of S. Wabash at about 11:10 p.m.
An 18-year-old man was shot in the back in Bronzeville. Both were sent to Mount Sinai Hospital. Their ages were not available. The other incident happened about 8:50 p.m. Wednesday in the 6400 block of South Richards Drive.
A police official at the scene said a weapon was recovered. She was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where her condition was stabilized.
The only fatal shooting reported during the first days of the holiday weekend was a 16-year-old boy who was killed in a shooting Sunday evening in the West Side Lawndale neighborhood, an incident that also left a and a 16-year-old girl wounded.
The man walked into Mercy Hospital and Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
The man was transferred to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. Almost 1,400 people have been shot in the city so far this year, including 236 people killed. A bullet struck a police auto.
Another 27-year-old man was shot in the buttocks in Brighton Park.
