The scene has been stabilized and the situation contained, the sheriff's office said. "Multiple fatalities", the sheriff's office posted on Twitter.

The man was not charged when he was accused of battering the co-worker in June 2014, and his previous criminal record was otherwise minor - marijuana possession and driving under the influence, the sheriff said.

A disgruntled former employee shot and killed five people at an Orlando, Florida, business Monday morning before turning the gun on himself, police said.

Shelley Adams said she was on the phone with her sister, a Fiamma employee, during the incident.

Authorities say officers arrived at the scene of a workplace shooting just two minutes after a witness called 911 in Orlando.

Seven people in the building survived the rampage and were providing details of the shootings, Demings said.

Police said the situation is contained.

Nearly a year ago, an attack at a gay nightclub in Orlando left 49 people dead, in the deadliest mass shooting in modern USA history.

The shooting occurred almost a year after the mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando on June 12, 2016, in which 49 people were killed and at least 58 injured.

Police have not named the dead gunman, 45, but say he has no ties to terror or subversive groups.

She kept repeating "My boss is dead, my boss is dead", Ms Adams said.

Gov. Rick Scott issued a statement issued a statement saying he was briefed by law enforcement "on this tragic incident".

Fiamma is an Italy-based manufacturer of accessories for motor vehicles.

The shooting came a week before the first anniversary of the Pulse nightclub shooting in the city.
