Federer's forehand victor at 4-4 secured the only break of the match and he served out to wrap up victory in one hour and 30 minutes.

Throughout today's match, Federer was a bit more vocal than usual punctuating strikes with "come on!" and ruing a couple mistakes with exclamations of "whoah!" While Zverev went 4-3 up, Federer reeled off the final four points to clinch the set.

"This is a very hard day for me and I wanted to come here in person and tell you guys face to face that a few days ago I was notified that in April I tested positive for cocaine", the 27-year-old said.

Gasquet, a two-time Wimbledon semi-finalist, grabbed the first set against Zverev with a break at 5-4. "Those are always signs for me that things are slowly starting to fall into place nicely".

"I played good in the second set and had a lot of chances but he played those set points well and was playing well overall".

Federer is quickly finding rhythm on grass after a loss last week in Stuttgart to Tommy Haas.

The Swiss top seed, who skipped the entire clay-court schedule in order to be fully fit for Wimbledon, brushed aside lucky loser Sugita 6-3, 6-1 in just 51 minutes, to bring up his 1100th win on the ATP Tour. Each held serve for four points, but on the first set point, Federer got the Khachanov serve back into play and saw a 27th error fly out for the match. They both served well in set number 2, with no deuces or break points until 4-4, when Roger broke at 15 to take a 5-4 lead, serving for the match in the following game.

Federer has already won three title titles this season, including the Australian Open - his first Grand Slam success in five years.

Petra Kvitova secured the best win of her comeback so far, beating Kristina Mladenovic to reach the semi-finals of the Aegon Classic in Birmingham.

Zverev's erratic first serve was a liability and Federer pounced again at 4-4 in the second set to break the German, whose younger brother Alexander is through to the quarter-finals, and served out the match.
