"We have noticed this important decision by U.S. President Trump, and we will pay attention to the impact of that decision on the global community and on Taiwan", Presidential Spokesman Alex Huang (黃重諺) said Friday.
On Thursday afternoon, President Donald Trump announced that the United States is withdrawing from the landmark climate agreement, alleging that it presented a better deal to "some of the world's highly polluting countries" like India and China.
Trump announced during a speech at the White House Rose Garden that he had made a decision to pull out of the landmark climate deal, in part because it would not reduce global temperatures fast enough to have a significant impact.
The president said the administration "will begin negotiations to re-enter either the Paris Accord, or an entirely new agreement".
But University of Toronto political scientist Matthew Hoffman says even if Canada, Ontario and Toronto move ahead with their plans to tackle climate change, Trump's decision could have a huge impact north of the border because the U.S.is by far Canada's largest trading partner.
The leaders of France, Italy, and Germany issued a joint statement condemning the decision and saying the renegotiation Trump has suggested is not an option because the accord "is a vital instrument for our planet, societies, and economies", the Guardian reports.
"Mainly it's the uncertainty that I think is something that we need to be anxious about right now", Hoffman told CBC Toronto Thursday. Pettis said that he has seen the effects of climate change in the warming waters he wor.
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday urged the world to work with Donald Trump on climate, insisting he did not "judge" the U.S. leader for quitting the landmark Paris accord.
Even in states that may not unanimously join the Alliance, mayors of cities right across the U.S. have come out to say that they too will keep their promises.
The agreement was hailed as a landmark when it was passed, with nearly 200 countries pledging to follow it. "This decision can not and will not ... stop us. And they won't be", Trump said. "I can assure you, France will not give up the fight".
"New York State is committed to meeting the standards set forth in the Paris Accord regardless of Washington's irresponsible actions".
But this completely ignores the legal process of withdrawing, said Ms Figueres, who served as chief of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change between 2010 to 2016.
