He later joined and ran the Enron Task Force.

While the admission might've proven obstruction of justice, Comey's testimonial may give life to a possibility to the talk (or idea) of impeachment.

Comey is expected to testify about his documentation of interactions with Mr. Trump, in which the president asked Comey for his loyalty and asked Comey to drop the investigation into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. Mike Conaway (R-Texas) and Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) in announcing the Flynn and Cohen subpoenas.

Cohen, who had refused an earlier request for information, saying it was "not capable of being answered", told The Associated Press on Wednesday, "If subpoenaed, I will work with my lawyers to cooperate with the various investigations".

The Senate Intelligence Committee has said publicly that Comey would testify publicly after Memorial Day - and the soonest that could happen is next week, since the Senate is in recess until Monday afternoon.

Some members of Congress had raised concerns that Mueller's appointment as special counsel would impede Congress and the public from hearing from Comey directly.

A DOJ spokesman declined comment on the potential personnel move. A spokeswoman for Sen. Trump said earlier this month he was "very close" to picking a nominee for the post and he had already met with several candidates.

Congress is due back in session next week. Almost two weeks ago chairman Richard Burr and vice chairman Mark Warner released a joint statement saying Comey had "committed" to testify.

Final details are still being worked out and no official date for his testimony has been set.

Pearson reported from NY.

Right before Comey dived into his investigation into Trump's Russian ties (via the 2016 president election tampering claims), he was sacked with the president citing the probe as the reason.

The Associated Press has learned of Flynn's cooperation that was the first signal that he and the Senate panel have found common ground.

On May 9, Trump dismissed Comey from the bureau.

Trump, for his part, has acknowledged he had the Trump-Russia investigation on his mind when he pulled the trigger on Comey's firing, as he admitted to NBC's Lester Holt in a nationally televised interview mere days after doing so.
