The My Life on the D-List star has provided New Year's Eve coverage alongside Anderson Cooper since 2007.
Cooper said Tuesday he was "appalled" by the "clearly disgusting" photo.
Trump said earlier Griffin "should be ashamed of herself" for the photos showing her with a replica of a severed, bloodied head resembling his. He also added that his youngest son Barron was "having a real hard time with this".
Griffin quickly posted a video on Twitter asking for forgiveness and saying "I am sorry".
"I sincerely apologize. I am just now seeing the reaction of these images", she wrote on Tuesday, after the furore had reached epic proportions. "I'm merely mocking the Mocker in Chief", she said in a since-deleted tweet (via the Daily Mail). I moved the line, then I crossed it.
Many people thought Griffin went too far this time. "I ask for your forgiveness". Griffin's apology was not enough for the network to take her back.
She said she'd ask celebrity photographer Tyler Shields to remove the photo and rejected the idea that she was encouraging violence against the President.
A New Mexico casino, the Route 66 Casino Hotel west of Albuquerque, said it had cancelled an appearance by Griffin scheduled for July 22.
She was slammed by Donald Trump Jr, who called the photoshoot disgusting but not surprising, and later Melania joined the group condemning Griffin. "I get it", the Emmy and Grammy victor continued.
Chelsea Clinton, daughter of Trump's one-time campaign rival Hillary Clinton, called the photo "vile and wrong".
"We were shocked and disappointed to learn about the image Ms. Griffin shared today, it was deeply inappropriate and runs contrary to the core values our company stands for".
With backlash on social media and reports of the Secret Service opening an investigation, Griffin's career has taken a turn for the worse.
