For an entire month of the Islamic calendar devout Muslims fast each day between the hours of sunrise and sunset, and spend the time when they are fasting reading the Koran and praying.
Mr. Kubiš noted that Ramadan, the holy month of prayers, contemplation and compassion for Muslims which preceded Eid-ul-Fitr, was marred this year by terrorist bombings that have claimed many civilian lives.

However, celebrations round the world differ depending on when the new moon is first sighted on the evening of the holy celebration.
Muslim Council Dimapur (MCD) has extended IDD greetings to all citizens of Nagaland on the occasion of the Holy festival Idd-Ul- Fitir.
"Greetings to all my fellow citizens, particularly my Muslim brothers & sisters, in India & overseas on Idu'l Fitr", the President tweeted.
In his video message, Singh said, "I heartily wish Eid Mubarak to all my Kashmiri brothers and sisters, elders, youth and dear children".
CNN, citing two unnamed administration officials, also reported that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson turned down "a request by the State Department's Office of Religion and Global Affairs to host a reception marking Eid al-Fitr".
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh also wished the country on the festival, and hoped for better and peaceful conditions in the Kashmir valley.
"I have full faith that this festival of humanity will help to bring peace, tranquility and friendship in Kashmir Valley", he added.
