Earlier this month, United States game rental service Gamefly put up a page for the standalone Modern Warfare Remastered, and pegged it for a June 20 release. We wouldn't put it past Activision to announce a standalone release during Sony's E3 presser, if only to promote the one month exclusivity that PS4 players could get. Now the only way to play Modern Warfare Remastered is by owning a copy of the Legacy Edition of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare but thankfully that may be about to change. While it was great that fans were able to dive back into that great game, it wasn't great that the game didn't get a standalone release and forced those interested to purchase a special edition of Infinite Warfare to get it. I wouldn't expect that price to translate directly, but it does suggest that a standalone MWR will come in awfully close to a full-priced CoD release.
It's worth pointing out that the June 20th release date only applies to the PlayStation 4 version of the game, with the other versions being pegged with a July 20th release date.
It makes sense since the company can make extra money on the game in this way. Activision never promised that the game would one day be unbundled from Infinite Warfare, even if it seemed inevitable. That was earlier this year.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is seen by the franchise's fanbase as being one of the best Call of Duty games, as not only did it finally end the franchise's imprisonment in World War 2, but also made the game a serious multiplayer giant.
