According to a number of critic reviews, "Wonder Woman", featuring Gal Gadot as the timeless princess of the Amazons and Chris Pine as the American pilot Steve Trevor, is being hailed for showing female power in what many consider a very timely light.
Lebanon is officially at war with Israel, and a decades-old law boycotts Israeli products and prohibits Lebanese citizens from traveling to Israel or doing business with Israelis.
A premiere of "Wonder Woman" is scheduled for Wednesday in at least one cinema in Beirut.
Especially after she showed public support for Israeli troops as the country led a military offensive in Gaza back in 2014. A Lebanese security official told the Times that a ban would require a recommendation from a six-ministry-member committee, noting that such a process has not yet started.
"We now await the implementation", said boycott member Samah Idriss to the Associated Press. "We now await the implementation".
At the current time, an incredible 97% of reviewers on Rotten Tomatoes are responding positively to the movie, making it one of the most widely praised superhero movie in recent years.
But now, the ban has not yet been enforced, and one Lebanese cinema chain has even revealed that a Lebanese premiere is being planned.
"We don't separate art even romantic movies from the role of the artist and the intellectual on the ground", he said. Religious institutions also have a say in artwork with religious references.
Not only does Israeli actress and model Gal Gadot play Wonder Woman in the upcoming DC film, but it turns out she's a kick ass woman in real life too.
Gadot, who was Miss Israel 2004 before she became an actress, completed two years of compulsory service in the Israel Defense Forces. I'm not convinced that Wonder Woman is going to be any different but based on this incarnation of the character's introduction in Batman versus Superman, cautious optimism appears to be the order of the day.
Director Patty Jenkins is drawing parallels between her vision of Wonder Woman and her fellow DC Comics icon Superman.
But Elie Fares, a Lebanese blogger, said the movie apparently has been green-lighted, since theaters are getting ready to show it. "You can't empower women if you don't educate the men and you don't teach the boys, so as much as it's important for girls to be exposed and see this movie, it's important for boys to have a strong female figure that they can look up to".
