British Prime Minister Theresa May, who spoke about the matter with U.S. President Donald Trump at a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels, said the countries' partnership on defense and security was built on trust.

Officials are particularly angry that photos detailing evidence about the bomb were published in the New York Times.

The Manchester bombing has raised concern across Europe.

Rudd said Britain's increased official threat level will remain at "critical" as the investigation proceeds and won't be lowered until security services are convinced there is no active plot in place.

After a series of police raids in and around Manchester, a total of eight people are in custody in connection with the suicide bombing.

Government officials said almost 1,000 soldiers were deployed to Buckingham Palace, Parliament and other high-profile sites across the country. But leaks from the investigation were creating a diplomatic mess.

The bomb used in the attack appeared to contain carefully packed shrapnel and have a powerful, high velocity charge, according to leaked photographs from the investigation published by the New York Times. British media have reported that one of them is Abedi's brother but police have not confirmed that.

President Donald Trump said on Thursday that "deeply troubling" leaks to USA media about the Manchester suicide bombing would be investigated, after irate British police stopped sharing information with US agencies.

Both shows have been canceled, as well as performances in Belgium, Poland, Germany and Switzerland through June 5, her record label said in a statement. The US singer had been scheduled to perform two shows at London's O2 arena this week. All campaigning was suspended after the attack, although major parties said they would resume some activities on Thursday and national-level campaigning on Friday.

Acquaintances were stunned to learn that Salman had carried out the suicide bombing but there were signs that he was troubled, friends and officials said Wednesday.

"Whilst some of what we are doing will be obvious to the public there is a huge amount of work happening day and night that the public will never know about", Commander Jane Connors, leading the London policing operation, said. They said they would formally name the victims after forensic post-mortems, which would take four or five days.
