President Trump is warning ousted FBI Director James Comey not to leak anything damaging to the media or else face the prospect of releasing secret "tapes", raising the question of whether the White House is recording conversations - accusations the administration refused to deny. "No one has ever achieved anything significant without a chorus of critics standing on the sidelines explaining why it can't be done", Trump said. The FBI typically does not confirm their existence.
"Even if this investigation continues unabated, there is a substantial risk that the American people will not have confidence in its results, no matter who is appointed to succeed him, given that the director of the FBI serves at the pleasure of the president", the group wrote.
The FBI is looking into Russia's influence in the 2016 presidential election and any potential ties to Trump's campaign.
Trump's tweet raised questions about whether or not his discussions with Comey were in fact recorded - and what Comey said to Trump during those conversations.
"I said, if it's possible would you let me know, am I under investigation?" That's according to two people familiar with the search process who weren't authorized to publicly discuss the deliberations and spoke on condition of anonymity.
The FBI's Russian Federation probe is also looking into possible links between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation. Russian Federation denies the claims and the White House says there was no collusion.
The development comes as the Trump administration faces questions over why and how the president fired Comey last week as the FBI was investigating whether Trump's presidential campaign was connected to Russian meddling in the election.
Comey promised only that he could be honest, The New York Times reported. Comey declined, instead offering honesty. "And I don't think I've heard anything since last night to clarify that in any way", said Sen.
Durbin added, "His credibility has been destroyed". Mark Warner (D-Va.), said Friday that Comey would not appear that day, without providing further information.
Describing himself as a very active President, Trump explained that at time it become very hard for his surrogates to explain things with flawless accuracy to reporters at the news conference.

Trump told NBC's Lester Holt, "I was going to fire Comey" regardless of what the Department of Justice recommended, which conflicted with the White House's sketchy version of events.
WikiLeaks - the organization that infamously released emails associated with the Clinton campaign previous year - has offered a $100,000 reward for tapes of conversations between Trump and Comey.
"I think the point that I made with respect to the tweet is the president has no further comment on this", said Spicer.
Spicer also denied that Trump was trying to warn Comey to stay silent about the circumstances surrounding his firing, The Hill reports.
He said that while he received a scathing assessment of Comey's performance from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein on Monday, that memo was not a catalyst for his dramatic decision as the White House had said earlier. Not everyone agreed with each Comey decision, but he was a popular and well-regarded director, they said.
