"After reviewing the findings, I've made the decision to terminate Roy Oliver's employment with the Balch Springs Police Department", Balch Springs Police Chief Jonathan Haber said Tuesday.

Police arrived at the scene to investigate an underage drinking complaint and spotted the vehicle leaving. Oliver opened fire as the teenagers were driving away. The Dallas County Sheriff's Office and District Attorney's Office are now investigating the shooting death of 15-year-old Jordan Edwards on Saturday, April 29. Haber said at first that the auto was "backing down the street" towards officers in "an aggressive manner", so police confronted them and fired.

"We have a dead 15-year-old with no causation on his part or anybody of the vehicle", Merritt said on Monday.

Asked about the department's racial makeup, spokesman Pedro Gonzalez said Balch Springs was "hindered" by competition from big-city police departments.

Though the internal affairs inquiry has been completed, a criminal investigation into the shooting is proceeding by two Dallas County agencies, the sheriff's department and the district attorney's office, and charges are possible. The race of the fired officer was not revealed. An officer shot his rifle through the front passenger side window and struck Edwards, said Lee Merritt, an attorney for Edwards' family. The incident, which is receiving national media attention, is being investigated by the Dallas County Sheriff's Office. However, Edwards and his friends were not the source of the original call. Haber previously said the department was getting threats on social media in response to the shooting. At the time of the shooting, the auto was moving forward and did not pose a threat to police.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the family called for other officers who "extended this nightmare for those children" to face disciplinary action.

"The bond that he shared with his family, particularly his siblings, was indescribable", his family said in a statement.

"The incident is recent and still being investigated", she said.

Attorney Cindy Stormer, who is representing Oliver, declined to comment to the Dallas Morning News as the investigation is ongoing.

An active member of the football team, he was described as an A-student and an ambitious athlete.

The Dallas suburb where a white police officer shot and killed a black teenager as he left a party has a population that's just 20 percent white but a police department that's 80 percent white.

"I unintentionally, incorrectly said the vehicle was backing down the road", Haber said Monday. He said that this case stood out for its "sheer recklessness".

They also feel officer painted his name, and those of his brothers, in a negative light when announcing the initial incorrect information about what happened the night Edwards died.

Merritt said that Edwards' older brother, who was driving the vehicle, was arrested and held overnight by police, the News reported. Instead, Crockett said, he was detained and handcuffed. Crockett said the driver wasn't formally arrested, but a separate statement from the family released through Merritt says the two brothers were arrested. "We have a certain set of core values, and it did not meet our values", Haber said. "In fact, according to the video that I viewed the vehicle was moving forward as the officer was approached", Haber said.

WFAA has requested for police to release the body camera video of the shooting.

The Balch Springs police officer who shot and killed 15-year-old Jordan Edwards has been fired.

Three days after he killed an unarmed 15-year-old boy, a Balch Springs police officer was sacked.
