"They attempted to make a auto stop on that stolen vehicle and a pursuit began". A second officer joined the pursuit that ended near the intersection of Orange Drive and Nut Tree Parkway in Vacaville when the suspect drove down an embankment.
According to Lt. Mark Donaldson, of the Vacaville Police Department, shortly after midnight, a Vacaville police officer was following a auto after he had determined it had been stolen.
The auto did not stop and a chase began. The auto took the Leisure Town Roar offramp and turned onto Orange Drive. There, Vacaville police said officers stopped the auto using a PIT maneuver.
Shortly after officers stopped the auto, two of them opened fire on the man driving the Accord.
Police said it was unclear if the man was armed. A chase began until officers were able to stop the vehicle on the Nut Tree Road overpass, north of Orange Drive near the Vacaville Premium Outlets. The man died at the scene. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.
During the incident, the officer involved sustained non life-threatening injuries.
An officer was also treated for a minor knee injury. They did not elaborate on the type of injury.
Detectives remained on scene for several hours after the incident in conjunction with the Investigators from the Solano County District Attorney's Office, looking into what led to the incident.
