In addition to the New Mexico clinics, the Rocky Mountain Planned Parenthood region is also closing it's only location in Wyoming, though there remain other family planning and abortion providers in the state, and two locations in Colorado.

"Planned Parenthood, even today, will tell women if they call that if they're too late to get an abortion in IN that there are contiguous states where they can get abortions", Falk says.

Planned Parenthood - which received almost $1 million in funding through the Family Planning Network in fiscal year 2016 - administered services to more than 30,000 people last year, with almost 50 percent of its patients at or below the federal poverty level.

Most of the Iowa clinics closing are slated to shut their doors in June when the current system using federal Medicaid money expires, the AP reported.

"Defunding Planned Parenthood will set a health care crisis in motion in Iowa". This follows a bill Donald Trump signed in April giving states the ability to refuse to reimburse family planning centers that provide abortions from Medicaid and the Title X family grant program.

Individual states have made piecemeal efforts to block Planned Parenthood from receiving public funds meant to help states provide low-income women with STI tests, contraception, and cancer screenings. "What is happening in Iowa is what we could see across the country if Congress passes this risky law to defund Planned Parenthood". The Quad Cities health center will stop providing family planning services on June 30, but will continue to provide abortion services for an unspecified period of time.

"Planned Parenthood claims abortion is a 'women's right, ' but this rhetoric forgets we're talking about young, minor girls", said Mike Fichter, president and CEO of Indiana Right to Life.

But some health care providers in Iowa are expressing doubt that they can serve as a proper alternative, if Planned Parenthood isn't there.

The ACLU of IN will again take IN to court over an abortion law - this time one requiring parental consent for minors seeking the procedure.

"If it weren't for the care I received there, I would not be where I am today", said Roberson, who moved to New York City in July to pursue a career in apparel merchandising and design.

There is no easy way to cut Planned Parenthood out of the health-care ecosystem without causing a health crisis.

Democratic legislators were quick to voice their displeasure with Branstad and other Republican legislators, saying politicians should stay out of women's health care.
