The former captain will be on hand to mark the occasion, but in advance of the festivities, he took a moment to show his appreciation to New York City for its help in making all those memories possible. Above you see the video attached to the post where the people of NY help Jeter deliver his heart felt message. "And I always respected the challenge to prove myself each and every day", Jeter wrote.

"I wasn't born a New Yorker - you asked me to earn it", Jeter wrote.

Check it out below, and stay tuned to YES Network all #JeterWeek long, before Sunday's festivities when he'll join his fellow New York Yankees legends in Monument Park.

The sports icon praised the city for supporting him throughout his 20 seasons with the Yankees writing, "I'll never forget how you looked out for me".

A video of New Yorkers reading the letter was also created. And that's what I tried to do.

Everyone comes to this city with dreams of being No. 1.

"You're bringing up stories from about 20 years ago, huh?" said Jeter, clearly trying to move past the subject. Five World Series rings and countless achievements later, Jeter called it a career after the 2014 season. The 14-time All-Star shortstop helped lead NY to five World Series titles.
