The irate mother was arrested for hitting her son multiple times on Thursday, May 11, 2017.

A SC woman is facing a child cruelty charge after hitting her son multiple times because he made a Mother's Day card for his grandmother but not for her. The Palm Beach Post reported that when officers arrived they found two children being comforted by their grandmother.

She told police that Murphy hits them all the time. WBRC reported that officials recovered a handwritten card ripped to pieces at the scene. The grandmother said the boy was struck three times, according to officers.

She said she hit him in the head, but didn't think it was hard or violent, according to the report.

The child's grandmother told police that her daughter hit the boy multiple times on the front, side and back of the head, according to Fox 5.

The boy told the officer his head hurt and he was sad.

Murphy told deputies that she had disciplined her son because of behavioral problems at school, but that she did not hit him "hard or in a violent manner". He was transported to the hospital for an evaluation and was later released.

Today, she's facing a child cruelty charge in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

The nurse said she didn't see any trauma to his head. She is being held at the Spartanburg County Detention Center.
