A man in Texas has filed a lawsuit against a woman he went on a date with because she was texting while they were at the cinema.
Brandon Vezmar filed the claim for $17.31 last week. In this instance, Brandon says he did ask her to put the phone away for which the woman apparently refused. Vezmar says he suggested she step outside to text. She left the theatre and never came back.
Her date, Brandon Vezmar became so pissed off that he made a decision to... sue her. During a screening of the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel, he asked her to "take it outside" when her texting became a distraction. "This is like one of my biggest pet peeves", he told local paper Austin American-Statesman.
"Oh my God", the woman said to the Austin American Statesman on hearing the news. "Will you do this or to [sic] I have to pursue the money in small claims court?".
The petition stated the texting was a "direct violation" of the cinema's policy and the woman's actions "adversely" impacted his viewing pleasure.
"I was holding my phone down without bothering anyone", replied the "date from hell". She denied that it was constant texting.
He said the damages sought were modest‚ but it was the principle that was important as the woman's behaviour "is a threat to civilized society". "I feel sorry that I hurt his feelings badly enough that he felt he needed to commit so much time and effort into seeking revenge".
"The date just didn't work out and I would love to give you your 17 dollars and 31 cents if you could just leave this alone", she said in a meeting captured on video by Inside Edition.
1/2 My supporters, I ask one thing. "She deserves jail time!"
