Wicketkeeper-batsman Karthik played the last of his 71 ODIs in 2014 against Afghanistan and was part of the Indian team which won the last Champions Trophy in 2013. Karthik's inclusion will boost the middle-order.
Manish Pandey's KKR will play the IPL Qualifier 2 at Bangalore's M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday.
According to the BCCI announcement on Thursday, Dinesh Karthik will place instead of Manish Pandey in all the matches of upcoming Champions Trophy.
In recalling Karthik, the selectors have rewarded his excellent domestic form across formats.
Besides a consistent showing in first-class cricket this year, Karthik has been the second-highest scorer (361 runs) for his IPL team Gujarat Lions.
Karthik is making a comeback into the Indian team after a gap nearly three years.
The defending champions will begin their Champions Trophy campaign again arch rival Pakistan on June 4 in Birmingham following matches against Sri Lanka and South Africa on June 8 and June 11 respectively. The India Cricket board has marked his name in the India team squad for the Champions Trophy.
