Syrian rebel and intelligence sources are claiming that Israeli air strikes were responsible.
Assad is backed in the war by Russia, Iran and regional Shia militias including Hezbollah, which is a close ally of Tehran and a sworn enemy of Israel.
Russia, whose forces are helping President Bashar al-Assad fight Islamic State and other militant groups, regularly says it is the only foreign power operating on Syrian territory at the Syrian government's invitation and has spoken out strongly against Turkish strikes as well as a recent USA strike.
A spokeswoman for the Israeli military declined to comment on today's bombing run.
While Israel did not officially admit responsibility for the airstrike, Intelligence Minister Yisrael Katz told Army Radio Israel has made its intents clear.
Liberman had expressed his concern about Iran's use of Syrian grounds to smuggle weapons to Hezbollah and said Israel would not allow the concentration of Iranian and Hezbollah forces on the Golan Heights border, the ministry said in a statement.

A news agency, citing an intelligence source, said the depot that was targeted handles a significant amount of weapons that Tehran, a major regional ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, sends regularly by air. Hezbollah's al-Manar media station reported a blast at the fuel tanks and a warehouse next to the airport, which is 25 kilometers (16 miles) east of the city's center. The missiles caused explosions and material losses, state TV said.
Syrian state media has attributed the missile strikes to Israel, the BBC reported.

In a rare step last month, the Israeli military confirmed that its jets had struck several targets inside Syria in a raid that prompted the Syrian military to fire a number of ground-to-air missiles, one of which was intercepted over Israeli territory.
