A British family had no idea they were living with a fox cub for several days, before it was found hiding in the sofa.
It was only the family cat's interest in a couch, and a unusual smell, that alerted them to their special guest.
Upon further investigation they found a starving fox cub, about six weeks old, which they believe had been lodging at the house in Welney for several days.
The homeowner had noticed "a smell" and when her cat began "standing guard" by the sofa, she made a decision to investigate.
The cub was eventually taken to Fenland Animal Rescue after a search for its mother proved fruitless. When she made a decision to investigate and looked under the sofa, she found two little black eyes staring back at her!
Fenland Animal Rescue, however, was happy to report that despite being seriously dehydrated, the cub still had a little energy left.
Ten days later, the youngster is doing well and will be released into the wild once he is old enough and has required the necessary skills to survive.
He has been moved to a semi-wild outdoor pen "so that he can remain wild, but also enjoy the space to play and explore like any fox cub should", said Mr Flanagan.
