Star Trek: Discovery is coming to us this fall. It will be a prequel, taking place 10 years before 1966's original "Star Trek" series. Optimism about the future is one of "Star Trek's" most enduring traits, and as an avid fan and an optimist, I'd say the preview looks great.
Local fans will be delighted to know that Yeoh is featured front and centre in the newly released trailer and photos of Star Trek: Discovery on CBS All Access.
The new teaser trailer features Walking Dead star, Sonequa Martin-Green as the First Officer Michael Burnham of the Discovery, and will follow her life and progress as she learns the ropes of captaincy. The starship "Discovery" looks fantastic in exterior and interior shots. The next scenes are a montage of what seem to be events related to the rest of the series. There is also a brewing conflict between Starfleet and the Klingon Empire. Apart from that, the series will also be accompanied by its very own post-show wrap-up that is known as "Talking Trek".
It's only visible for a few brief moments, but the bridge strongly resembles the bridge of the Enterprise from the J.J. Abrams-directed "Star Trek" movies.
"Star Trek: Discovery" was first conceptualized by Alex Kurtzman, who penned the screenplay for the first "Star Trek" film and its sequel "Star Trek: into Darkness", and Bryan Fuller, who penned the television adaptation of "Hannibal" and "American Gods". The first Klingons to appear in the original "Star Trek" series closely resembled humans. Both Fuller and Kurtzman had other commitments and the show had to be delayed several times.
Here is everything you need to know about the new series.
"The return of the famed franchise will premiere in the USA on CBS All Access this fall, following a broadcast premiere on the CBS Television Network", CBS noted.
