The 25-year-old actress and Bella, 20, wore strikingly similar gowns on the opening night of the annual film festival, before they slipped into more casual attire and indulged in some raunchy dance moves on a boat off the French coast.

Almodovar, a longtime Cannes regular, is president of the jury that will decide the Palme d'Or. As in 2016, the top model unveiled its underwear on the red carpet Festival Cannes.

Will Smith and Pedro Almodovar opened the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday (May 17) by clashing over Netflix movies.

The 31-year-old actress let her long tresses loose, while opting for bold, dark lips and nails to compliment her attire.

Festival Director Thierry Fremaux had said he believed Netflix would arrange some kind of cinema release for the two films in competition - "The Meyerowitz Stories" and "Okja" - both highly anticipated, with stars that include Jake Gyllenhaal, Ben Stiller and Tilda Swinton.

The 2017 festival, which begins next week, has Netflix films in its competition for the first time, a decision that angered the French movie theater sector as the company said the films will only be streamed to subscribers and not shown in cinemas.

"West Philadelphia is a long way from Cannes", said Smith, referring to the scrappy neighborhood in the northeastern US city where he grew up.

The Cannes Film Festival runs through May 28, when the Palme d'Or victor and other awards will be announced. "It should not be part of your everyday setting", the Spanish filmmaker said. There's very little cross between going to the cinema and watching what they watch on Netflix. You must feel small and humble in front of the image that is here to capture you.

"In my house, Netflix has been nothing but an absolute benefit". Netflix brings a great connectivity for them to the world.

Almodovar took a tough line, telling reporters he could not imagine "the Palme d'Or nor any other prize being given to a film and then not being able to see that film on a large screen". Fake gems are fine, just don't get too close to any of the myriad Chopard reps milling around the festival, because they probably know the difference.
