CBI takes custody of former RJD MP Shahabuddin in journalist Rajdeo Ranjan murder case, taken to CBI Headquarters for questioning.
Shahabuddin is serving life imprisonment in Tihar jail in connection with the murder of Bihar-based journalist Rajdeo Ranjan.
Rajdeo Ranjan had penned down many reports over Shahabuddin, who is accused in at least 45 other criminal cases and is now lodged at high-security Tihar Jail in New Delhi. According to CBI sources, Shahabuddin, who is accused in the case, has been brought to the agency headquarter for questioning.
The CBI has taken Mohammad Shahabuddin into custody.
The agency told a Muzaffarpur court that his name has surfaced as an accused in the case and requires his custodial interrogation.
On May 26, Shahabuddin was named as 10th accused in the murder of Rajdeo Ranjan by the CBI. Shahabuddin is also facing criminal proceedings in about 40 other cases including cases of serious crimes like that of murder and kidnapping.
Shahabuddin was previously released on bail for a short period of time in connection with a separate case but was sent back to after the Bihar government challenged his bail.
A chargesheet has been filed against six of the accused. He was produced in the agency's Special Court in Muzaffarpur through video-conferencing.
The case was handed over to the CBI in September a year ago after the slain journalist's widow Asha Ranjan and his father Radhe Krishna Chaudhary repeatedly alleged that Shahabuddin was behind the murder.
