It is the 15th year in a row that law enforcement officers from across IL have taken part in the fundraiser.
It's called Cops on Donut Shops, and starting at 5 a.m. officers from across Kansas will climb to the roof of some Dunkin' Donuts restaurants to raise money for Special Olympics. "It's all for those athletes".
Rooftops of all 15 Dunkin' Donuts locations across the state are being occupied by local law enforcement until 2 p.m. Friday.
People that donated got a free donut coupon. NPD is also holding a live auction on its Facebook page today.
"We're trying to do an end goal of $10,000 dollars for Special Olympics Kentucky this year, so hopefully with this event we get closer to that margin", says United Kingdom police officer Zach Downing.
This year, for the first time, police officers in Kansas, Ohio, Missouri, Kentucky and Pennsylvania will join officers in IL to support Special Olympics in their own states.
