People who need to retrieve items from the school can go to the Central Campus Library on from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday and be escorted by police.

Initially, the identifies of the deceased were not known, but the authorities later revealed that the woman was a 20-year-old victim by the name of Janeera Nickol Gonzalez.

It is still unclear if the two knew each other.

A little after 12:30pm, school officials tweeted that the school was on an "intruder lock-down" and ordered students on campus to seek shelter.

A math tutor was just leaving work at North Lake College late Wednesday morning when she witnessed the shooting of a young woman in one of the school's hallways. "I saw him shooting her three times", she said.

One student spoke with WFAA and said she was in the C Building when she heard three gunshots before running out of the school.

Le, who said he then took cover, said the shots sounded like they were fired inside the building.

Within an hour of declaring an active shooter at North Lake College, the Irving Police Department said one victim is dead and the suspected shooter appears to have committed suicide. "All students, staff, visitors outside the campus must leave the perimeter". Officers with their weapons drawn cautiously moved toward campus buildings.

As officers were trying to find the gunman, McLellan said that policemen stopped many cars which were leaving the campus hoping to find the killer.

McLellan said it didn't appear that anyone else was hurt in the shooting that erupted around noon local time. The campus was placed on lockdown immediately afterward and will not open again until Monday.

Dallas County Community College District police commissioner Lauretta Hill said security will be beefed up and evacuation procedures streamlined.
