Two Middletown men were killed Friday when the vehicle they were traveling in collided with a tractor trailer on southbound I-91 in Rocky Hill around 10:30 p.m., officials said.
Troopers say the crash was reported shortly after 10:30 p.m. Friday. The tractor-trailer was stopped in heavy traffic on I-91 due to a disabled vehicle, when a auto driven by Jose Diana of Middletown collided with the truck at a high-rate of speed. The auto then spun out of control and eventually came to a final rest in the right shoulder.
The tractor-trailer driver was unhurt, according to the release, but a passenger in the sleeper section of the cab was slightly injured and taken by ambulance to Hartford Hospital.
Diana and Nunez were declared dead on scene.
The highway was closed for around four hours for investigation.
This accident remains under investigation and anyone who witnessed it is asked to contact State Police Troop H at 860-534-1000.
