The owner tells NBC Connecticut that it wasn’t the first time she’s seen the bear in her backyard.
The Avon, Connecticut resident shrieked as she looked over to find a huge black bear staring back.
At one point, the bear was able to open the screen door but couldn’t manage to open the glass slider.
“My neighbor across the street just came over in a panic”, Bob Belfiore told television station WFSB in Hartford.
The bear was photographed standing up on the deck’s railing, with its paws up against the kitchen’s sliding glass door.
“We have a bear attempting to get into a house and he’s not afraid of noise, screaming or pounding”.
Bears wandering around is not unusual, but one bear’s persistence is putting some families on edge.
The clearly hungry bear was spotted climbing onto a porch in CT in an attempt to get into the home of an elderly woman, who was in the middle of baking brownies.
The bear pressed up against the glass door, apparently trying to enter the home. But the bear had already left the area.
The woman called a neighbor who called 911.
Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has advised residents to avoid “encounters and potential conflicts” with black bears.
Schain says Avon has more bear sightings than any other municipality in the state, around 560 in the a year ago.
Avon Police lieutenant Kelly Walsh says police get calls about bears entering peoples’ properties “almost daily”.
“We do get calls about bears walking in peoples” yards or crossing the street nearly daily.
