It's a system custom built to suit Tony Romo's strengths and as we've seen, it's nontransferable to a lesser-than.

Their back-up quarterback Kellen Moore, was injured with a broken fibula on Tuesday, according to USA Today.

With Romo's recent injury history, the backup position is ultra-important to the Cowboys.

It should be noted that the Cowboys drafted Dak Prescott in the fourth-round of this year's draft and at the moment, he's the QB2.

America's Team has already gone the "safe" route, and it earned them a top-five pick for just the second time in 25 years. "But I definitely need to get in better shape, get more reps and catch up". He doesn't always miss a ton of games, but he plays hurt, and last season he only played 4 games. It's gonna be tough especially with the Washington Redskins and New York Giants getting better this offseason. There is a very good chance that whoever the backup is in Dallas, he is going to play some games this year.

The Cowboys were interested in Nick Foles, who was released by the Los Angeles Rams before the start of their training camp, but Foles opted to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs on Wednesday. With the price of Browns backup Josh McCown reportedly too high, Dallas could turn their attention to Buccaneers backup Mike Glennon.

Linehan said he's been impressed with Prescott's physical skills and ability to take charge.

Why Foles, who after his remarkable 2013 season for the Eagles has regressed dramatically, is a fit for the Cowboys is well, because there isn't much else out there.

Finding a veteran backup is important, so he would have time to learn the system, the pass-catchers, the offensive line and the running backs. Free agents Jimmy Clausen, Michael Vick and and Matt Flynn also have been mentioned. Personally, I would sign T.J. Yates. They've done a nice job of starting off training camp. Given Tony Romo's recent injury problems, that's probably a smart move. The session, free and open to the public, is scheduled to start at 3:50 p.m. and will go until about 5:20 p.m. I think T.J. Yates is the Cowboys best option. This team likely can survive some injuries (and suspensions in their case) at most positions, but they will not survive if # 9 misses much time. The Browns now have Robert Griffin, McCown, Cody Kessler and Austin Davis on their quarterback depth chart, so it would all depend on their willingness to get rid of one of their options under center.
